North Dakota State, coming off a losing season, gave itself a big shot in the arm with its season-opening 6-3 victory at Kansas.


North Dakota State, picked to finish sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference, turned some heads Saturday night by knocking off Kansas 6-3 for its first win over a team in the Big 12.

Wet weather over the past week slowed the harvest in North Dakota but replenished areas in need of moisture. The U.S. Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop and weather report that the spring wheat and durum wheat harvests remain behind the average pace, and the wet conditions have some farmers worried about the condition of the crops.
