Many New Mexico families will stare into empty cupboards this holiday season but Smith’s shoppers can help alleviate hunger through the fourth annual Gift of Giving Program. At every Smith’s check stand through Dec. 27, shoppers can donate a $7 meal-in-a-bag or a $10 ham or turkey.


Los Angeles County Sheriff Leroy Baca will talk about New Mexico’s gang problem from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the West Mesa Community Center, 5500 Glenrio Road NW, Albuquerque.


Rio Rancho city councilors voted Wednesday to give City Manager James Jimenez and Finance Director Dick Kristof the authority to execute and deliver a loan agreement between the city and the New Mexico Finance Authority to finance two projects that councilors deem crucial.


Two new faces will join the Sandoval County Commission in January. Darryl Madalena, a Democrat from Jemez Pueblo, was elected to the District 5 seat. Glenn Walters, a Rio Rancho Republican, was elected to the District 4 seat.


Sandoval County voters help sweep Democrats into office. Democrats Tom Udall, Ben Ray Lujan and Martin Heinrich all were elected to federal office Tuesday, with the help of Sandoval County voters.


The Sandoval County Comm-issioner for District 2, Donnie Leonard, has come up with a unique plan for extra campaign contributions.. Rather than spend all the money on his campaign, he decided to donate half of the contributions to charities in Rio Rancho, Corrales and Albuquerque.


The term “three-peat” describes Jane Powdrell-Culbert’s political career. The Corrales Republican won her third election Tuesday night, edging out Rio Rancho Democrat Lisa Cour.


The election is not over in Sandoval County. The results must be canvassed and certified before the results become official. Sandoval County Commissioners gave Bureau of Election Manager Eddie Gutierrez the green light on Friday morning to start the canvass.


Is Hewlett-Packard coming to Rio Rancho? Mayor Tom Swisstack says it is. However, a final contract has yet to be approved.


Junior Troy Harris carried the ball 24 times for 340 yards and scored twice as No. 8 Rio Rancho beat ninth-ranked Cibola 43-17 for their fifth victory in a row on a frigid Thursday evening at Rio Rancho Stadium.
