Louisiana has displaced Mississippi as the unhealthiest U.S. state and other Southern states were close rivals due to high obesity and smoking rates in new rankings that deemed Vermont the healthiest.

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- For the second year in row, Vermont has been named the healthiest state, but Louisiana replaced Mississippi as the least healthy state, researchers said.


Maybe he just doesn't like Ben and Jerry's. Or teddy bears. Or the best darn maple syrup on the planet. Whatever the reason, President Bush has never visited Vermont.


BURLINGTON, VT -- Vermont has retained its top ranking as the healthiest state in the country for the second straight year, while Ohio slips three spots to Number 32.
