Alabama’s jobless rate increased to 5.6 percent in Oct. 2008 – the state’s highest rate in almost five years – according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations.


There are 120,590 unemployed in Alabama.


Alabama's unemployment rate climbed in October to 5.6%. That's the highest rate in nearly five years.


Alabama troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan will now get a booklet to help them deal with post-war stress and readjusting to family life.
